Direct Support Professional (DSP) Mentor

Location: Montgomery County, NY                            
FLSA: Non-Exempt
Reports To:  Residential Manager Mentor                                            
Hours of Work: Full time- 40 hours per week. Work hours vary, and overtime may be required.  Position requires work at various program sites on all shifts, with varying schedules.
Pay Range: The pay range is $19.20 to $28.06



Job Summary:  Responsible for monitoring and training new hire Direct Support Professional (DSP) staff as they enter the residences.  Support new DSPs as they transition from classroom instruction to hands-on practical application of agency policies and procedures.  Provide site-specific training, along with OPWDD, Office of Fire Prevention & Control (OFPC) and other regulations.  Help build relationships that are collaborative and person centered. 

Job Qualifications: 
  1. High School Diploma/GED is preferred.
  2. Minimum 2 years prior experience working directly with program participants is required. 
  3. Medication administration certification required.
  4. Excellent training, coaching and communication skills are required.
  5. Must be able to read, write and speak the English language.
  6. Valid NYS Driver’s license is required.
  7. Travel is required; employee must have reliable transportation available.

 

Major Responsibilities:

  1. Directly train and ensure Direct Support Professionals (DSP’s) understand and comprehend responsibilities pertaining to the operation of a site, including compliance, quality, communication, Policy and Procedures and regulatory standards.
  2. Train DSP’s in the use of agency computer systems (Therap, etc.).
  3. Deliver site-specific training in areas of skills-based training and core competencies. 
  4. Ensure proper training is provided on personal protective equipment (PPE) and emergency procedures.
  5. Conduct training/coaching meetings and share personal development opportunities with DSP’s.
  6. Help foster an environment that promotes employee engagement and job satisfaction.
  7. Train DSP’s on agency modes of communication (eg, Outlook, Facebook, Yammer).
  8. Maintain close communication with site manager as to progress of trainees.
  9. Travel to all assigned sites within the County.
